As part of the Queen Street West BIA Streetscape Revitalization, over seventy custom pieces were developed In collaboration with PMA Landscape Architects to integrate into the project, serving functional and place-making purposes. This multi unit installation was installed in 2 phases, sited along the sidewalk of Queen St West, from University to Bathurst st. in Toronto.
“Bike Spine” is a functional, sculptural installation composed of 12 Bike Stands in a bike corral configuration. The forms of the pieces evoke the standard City of Toronto Post-and-Ring bike stands, and organically scale along the length of the installation.
24 Tree Fences in 1/4” CORTEN steel were created to protect the city trees and tree pits along the street. The 3-sided design meets the new Urban Forestry guidelines and is very strong and durable. The designs are inspired by the neighborhood, including the 299 Queen West building, half-round windows and other local building details, including the condos looming above.
40 Bronze Lot Street Historical Inlays marking the original name “Lot st”, and the original colonial lot divisions running north. As well, A series of 21 “Energetic Signatures” were created by Local artist Catherine Tamarro and cut into bronze plate and mounted into concrete pavers.
